Training Tip

If you are cross training in weights it is important to remember to keep your flexibility training going as well. I have seen martial artist lose flexibility once they begin heavy weight training. I personally believe weight training is good for martial artists. It can keep the muscles strong helping to protect joints. Weight training can also make your kicks and punches stronger and give you a strength advantage in grappling. If you fail to keep yourself flexible as you lift weights than it can be counterproductive. To help keep muscles flexible you must warm up properly before weight training, lift using full range of motion, and stretch after the weight training session. Martial artist must be flexible to complete many of the techniques we use. So if you are incorporating weights keep stretching along with the strength training.
